Cayman Islands

The former favorite playground of robber barons, tycoons, and Victorian social elite, the Cayman Islands preserve the sense of elegance of times past for honeymooners and Destination Wedding brides and grooms. While they’re just a short flight from Miami, they’re actually a British Overseas Territory made up of Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman. Considering the Cayman islands are literally the tops of a giant reef, the snorkeling here is almost unparalleled (try Stingray city on Grand Cayman for an adventurous swim with large rays), but scuba divers are even more rewarded: with shipwrecks.

Destination Weddings are easy here – Not only is there no residency requirement and minimal required documents, the islands have a solid selection of high quality vendors. Venues range from private boutique hotels to the 5-Star Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman, and historic plantations like the Grand Old House, and the Great House at Pedro St. James. Think eighteenth-century, Pirates of the Caribbean style mansions.

The high season starts in mid-December and lasts through April 16th – and while we normally advise bargain hunters to try out shoulder seasons and off-seasons for the best rates, it’s best to avoid the poor weather that tends to come in from early Spring through Fall.

Then, you can take your Honeymoon straight to Hell. Go ahead, buy the T-shirt and take pictures. Not only will you have a joke to tell when you get home, but Hell – a group of black limestone formations the size of a soccer field – is really a sight to see.

The Caymans, really, are everything you’d look for in a life partner. They have a sense of humor, are full of surprises, easy on the eyes, and – romantic. The Seven Mile Beach on Grand Cayman has been voted one of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean and you can always find a private spot along the stretch of powdery sand for a picnic lunch.
