Choosing The Right Resort for Your Destination Wedding or Honeymoon

At Elite Travel, we know how important every detail of your wedding and honeymoon is to you. No user-review site can take the place of first-hand experience of a resort. Elite Travel agents have personally been to every destination we sell – and ensure we have recent, reliable, first-hand reports from the couples we send there. We also have our own photos of our favorite resorts – not PR photos that are a little too perfect.

That’s the kind of quality assurance you can’t find anywhere else. Most importantly, if your honeymoon or destination wedding doesn’t go exactly as planned, we offer 24-7 customer service to make it right. But – that’s all getting ahead of ourselves, because first, you have to start planning!

Check out our photos (to the left) and keep these condiderations in mind.

Three Things To Consider When Planning Your Destination Wedding

  1. Your guests. Are they old? Young? Very young? Maybe all of the above? If you’ve got everyone from Grandma to baby cousins coming, you’ll want to choose a resort that offers something for everyone. Fortunately, there are plenty of family-friendly resorts that cater to kids and adults. If mobility is an issue, cruise ships are an excellent option.
  2. Price. Since your guests are paying their own way for the most part, choose a resort that has great value for dollar. Think Yucatan Peninsula and all-inclusive resorts when you have champagne dreams on a cerveza budget.
  3. You and your spouse-to-be! It’s YOUR destination wedding – what do you want out of it? A beautiful tropical wedding with your closest friends and family in attendance? An exotic elopement with just the two of you? In our years of helping couples get away from it all, we’ve noticed that the ones who choose a destination wedding are those who want to relax and enjoy their wedding day – more than they want control over it.

Three things to Consider When Choosing Your Honeymoon Destination

  1. Activity level. Even for normally high-energy couples, after planning a wedding, you might be surprised to discover you need more of a vacation than usual. But, once you’ve recovered, you’ll bounce back to your old habits again. St. Lucia’s Body Holiday LeSport is ideal for physically active couples, pairing a huge range of activities with a World Heritage Site view of the Pitons. Dreams Cancun on the Yucatan Peninsula is great for history buffs and beach bums with its Mayan ruins and beach-front resorts. Homebodies (and couples who just need a break!) might opt to chill out in a private villa at Couples Swept Away in Negril.
  2. Time. Most of us don’t have many vacation days, even for our honeymoons. If time is a factor, you don’t want to spend a chunk of it sitting on an airplane or running around airports. Instead of taking your Trip of a Lifetime to the other side of the world, consider staying closer to home so you can enjoy more of your honeymoon. The Caribbean is a short flight away for us South East residents; Hawaii is a hop, skip and a jump for West Coasters; and Northerners may not know it, but they’re just a short flight away from Banff, Canada – one of the most stunning locations in the world for mountains, lakes, and natural splendor.
  3. Money. Even if you blew every dime on your wedding day, every couple should have a honeymoon. You’ll be amazed at the price range of resorts, and the deals you can find through a great travel agent. We know when resorts are just opening up, renovating, or changing ownership – and offering low introductory prices. Ask us for the best deal around and we’ll make sure you get great value for your dollar.
