Romantic Honeymoon in Rome and Tuscany

You’re getting married and looking for the perfect place to honeymoon. Of course, Italy has some of the most romantic honeymoon destinations on the planet.

If you want to celebrate your nuptials in Italy and you’ve never been there before, spend a few touristy days in Rome, making sure to row a boat on the romantic lake in the Villa Borghese, central Rome’s largest park and order a heart-shaped pizza at Da Vittorio a Trastevere. Visit Florence where you can stroll through the Boboli Gardens and share a gelato.

For some travelers, there’s a been-there, done-that kind of feeling when it comes to Florence and Rome, so make sure you have a driver pick you up and take you to the Tenuta Torciano, a family-owned Tuscan winery near San Gimignano, one of the best towns I’ve been to in a long time.

The town is truly indescribable, but San Gimignano reminds me of a medieval town in the middle of nowhere, a fairytale town lined with cobblestone streets known for its towers – think Rapunzel. There are only 7 towers left in town and the tallest tower is owned by the Torciano Family. When you go to the tower, you can see the vineyard.

Newlyweds can visit the small shops where everything is made by hand and buy a honeymoon souvenir. If you’re looking for a slightly sordid side of a fairytale town, visit the Museo della Tortura e di Criminologia Medievale, which translates in English as the Medieval Museum of Torture and Crime.

San Gimignano is an incredible opportunity to have a fairytale honeymoon.

If a medieval honeymoon isn’t for you, try Sardinia, the second-largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. If you go, make sure you visit the unbelievable lagoon of San Teodoro, home to hundreds of pink flamingos. You can also see the ancient ruins where they would mine and ship out gemstones. You can even see Spain from Sardinia. Stay at the Tarthesh Hotel where you can enjoy couple spa treatments, including baths in wool with milk.

Your honeymoon is a once-in-a-lifetime trip to celebrate your love for each other. Italy is the perfect destination, but be sure to think beyond the typical tourist areas and find that special place that’s meant for just the two of you.
